At the beginning of the 20th century (mainly 1904-1911) very large numbers of colibri (hummingbirds) were exported from America to Europe (mainly the UK). For which purpose?|||It might have been that they were trying to introduce the species to the UK, as the The Green Violetear (Colibri thalassinus) shows seasonal movements and wanders to the United States and even Canada.|||I can only imagine as pets, can't see it being for food and the weather's too cold here for himmingbirds to survive in the wild.

Just an opinion though
