Is a 22 Colibri legal to shoot in city limits?

Since the 22 Colibri round does not contain powder is it legal to shoot in the city limits?|||Not in almost any city in the U.S... Legally you are still discharging a "firearm."

Technically speaking you are still igniting the primer to fire the bullet.|||No. Even though .22 Colibri ammunition doesn't use gunpowder, it still uses the burning priming compound to produce the high-pressure gas to (hopefully) drive the bullet out of the barrel. That means a gun using .22 Colibri rounds is still a firearm. Since its still a firearm, discharging it inside the limits of a city that has an ordinance against discharging a firearm is still illegal.|||That would depend on the city. In some cities, it's legal to hunt deer with high powered rifles in certain areas. In most, though, it's not only illegal to shoot a firearm, but to shoot an air rifle. I can testify that even air guns are illegal within the city limits of Tulsa, OK.

However, I hunt squirrels in my back yard with Colibri rounds all the time. My Ruger 10/22 with an 18" bull barrel is far quieter than an air gun with these rounds. My Savage Model 24 is even quieter. In face, I killed two coons with Colibri rounds once. They're deadly at 50' as long as you hit them between the eyes.

FYI, Aguila says to never fire Colibris from ANY rifle. Due to their low velocity, the bullet CAN get stuck in a rifle. However, I have fired thousands of them through the two guns I mentioned without this happening.|||The best way to find out is to call your local police department and ask them. Generally they will have a non-emergency line you can look up. This is what I did when I lived just outside of city limits to be sure.|||you are still shooting a firearm and the round does contain powder as it's propellant therefore it fits the definition of firearm ammunition
