Or is it still too loud? Noone will see, I have privacy fence.|||it's doubtful, as most cities have ordinances against discharge of firearms within city limits. So unless you happen to live in a city without an ordinance like this, it would be illegal. Also remember that you are responsible for every projectile that you launch, and whatever unintended damage it may do. Granted colibris have very little power, usually enough to not damage much, it's still the concept and your neighbor's cat might be unseen behind the bush and become wounded. Not to mention if someone happens to see you, even with the privacy fence there's a good chance of them freaking out and you getting a little visit from local law enforcement.
Also as another poster answered these do not cycle a semi auto, and for most single stack magazines they will not feed (I've tried in my buckmark) So it's either single load or revolver.
Either way find either a range or an area outside of city limits where public shooting is allowed.|||Its still illegal if no one sees. The answer is NO. go get an airsoft toy like all the other kids.
ADDED: Ok, if you arent a kid, you have questionable judgement. This is a BAD IDEA. a Really bad idea. they are still loud enough for someone to hear it and wonder whats up, then call the police, and you go to jail. Or, you hurt someone with an errant shot.
Not to mention that sub sonic rounds usually dont have enough power to cycle a semi auto action, so you have a single action handgun.|||I remeber we used to shoot .22 rifles down at the train tracks for plinking when i was a kid, but that was a long time ago when people had more leinency. Now people will think you're out to kill someone if you try and pull it off.|||Don't|||No...the report of the gun will still sound like a gun and someone will probably call it in to the cops. You don't want that. Go to a national forest or the desert and do it there. Hey, how about a shooting range?|||No one would ever know if someone asks say its a bb gun all you hear is the firing pin drop and a beer can fall over im thinking about getting a .22 lr revolver myself because that ammo is badass|||Probably not real smart. Even though subsonic, they still have a report, and if your neighbors call in "shots fired" I fear you're going to be introduced to the American system of jurisprudence from the wrong end of the lesson plan.|||OK, independant of the legal issues which I will leave for you to sort out for yourself ...
To the best I can tell having only shot a few it sounds alot like a sort of medium loud cap gun. It is certainly louder and most distinctive in sound than my spring piston air rifle, but was not loud enough to be really painful without ear protection for a couple of shots.
Of course there are the issues around safe backstop and such if you are going to shoot in city, but particularly if you were shooting from inside the house to outside, unless you live in a duplex or condo I would think it would be difficult for a neighbor to hear.
Note, I agree with everyone else - most cities have ordinances against this sort of thing and it seems a stupid way to lose your right to own firearms (again depending on where you live and the exact weight of the law) but that wasn't the question you asked.
