The other day I came across a H%26amp;R Young America 7 shot 22 short revolver,I cleaned it up real nice and I shot it.The only kind of bullets I used was 22 Colibri no gun powder bullets.Would it be safe to use regular 22 shot ammo?And about how much is it worth?It is nickle plated and is in fair condition.||| I wouldn't hesitate to fire standard ammo.I don't recall ever hearing of a .22 rimfire rupturing.Not enough pressure in the chamber.Be
cautious.As for value,in good condition,about $85.00 U.S. {According to my 2006 edition "Standard Catalog of Firearms Price%26amp;reference guide" Made from1884 to1941,approximately1.5 million. Enjoy!|||The H%26amp;R "YOUNG AMERICAN" double action revolver came chambered in .2 rimfire or .32 S%26amp;W rimfire and was offered with a 2",4.5", or 6" round or octagon barrel, and hard rubber grips.
Clearly marked "young american double action" or "Young American Bulldog", over one million five hundred thousand where made between 1884 and 1941.
It is valued as follows:
Excellent=$125.00
Very Good=$100.00
Good=$85.00
Fair=$65.00

** If it is marked .22 short, than DO NOT attempt to fire .22 long rifle in it, either slug or shot shell.
As noted these revolvers where mass produced, low cost, and have little collector value. But it seems like as I was growing up, every household had one of them in it.
Shoot safe|||I wouldn't use .22 LR ammo as you have already stated that it is a .22 Short. It should be safe with .22 Short ammo. Shot shells? I don't think they are made in .22 Short. If they are then it would be safe to use them in a revolver chambered for .22 Short ammo.
H%26amp;R revolvers are not top-of-the-line although they are practical and utilitarian. I'd say you have a nice plinker that can double as a handy handgun for dispatching small vermin. The .22 Short can inflict up to life-ending injuries on a person so treat it as you would any other firearm.
Value: Let's say that $150. is a very generous offer. If you are offered that much grab the money but practically I'd say a revolver like this is worth maybe fifty dollars.
H
|||Value as you describe: 100 dollar range
Ammo: No 22LR. 22 short or even 22CB might be OK, but have it checked by a gunsmith first. No one ever does, but they should.
Sears sold them in their 1894 catalog for under 5 bucks. |||Nice find but H%26amp;R are very inexpensive in the first place. Used it would probably go for under $150, and it is ok to shoot regular 22 LR ammo out of the gun.|||Check here for value.%26gt;%26gt; icollector.com..........
