To get a mobile phone connection what do you need?

What is the procedure for taking a mobile phone connection in USA, Europe, Japan or other countries (please specify which country you are talking of.. thanks)?

Do we need residence proof, identity proof, submit some documents Or just pay and get a mobile phone connection?|||For the United States

If you plan on using a prepaid phone service proof of residency is not required, however if you want to activate a regular account as a credit check must be run prior to the activation of the service in the United States you will be required to have a passport, a major credit card as a credit check cannot be run without a social security card. With T-Mobile however they have a FlexPlan in which there is a monthly contract and no credit check is required however a major credit card to ensure payment is made

A reminder that the features that you have have received free abroad is not so here in the US .. there is no FFIM(first free incoming minute) and there is a charge for messaging.
