Was a three hundred pound fine and three points on a license fair for using a mobile phone whilst driving?

Fergus Wilson, a property magnate with a whopping 240 million has been fined 565 quid for using his mobile phone at the wheel. 300 in fines and 265 in costs, The JP summed up we have doubts about your version of events, when he claimed he was not using a mobile, but that it was a carton of juice. With that kind of money he can afford it.

But in general is this system working or just adding money to the coffers?|||My best friend was killed by a driver on a mobile, he should have had is hands cut off and shoved up his a!rse.|||It works, drinking a cartoon of juice could be dangerous - he squeezes too hard a bit goes on his trousers, loses concentration and he has a massive crash. Unfortunately you can't fine the rich more and poor less.|||i live in a town where every driver still uses their mobile while driving ...taxi drivers also...the police in lancs dont want to arrest every asian guy in town...might be construed as racism...Ive seen them whooping with glee shouting look no hands...and also no kids are ever in car seats...just an observation..nothing more..|||If he was truly using a mobile then yes he deserved it. I have heard so many horror stories of the people who have lost loved ones because of some idiot concerntrating on their mobile instead of paying attention to the road.|||I'm not sure the mans wealth should be taken into account, just the fact that he should pay the going rate of fine that's required by law. wether thats enough is for the lame government to decide i think.|||Who cares? Driving whilst on a mobile is an offence, as it should be - insufficient evidence paid to the road conditions. Don't care who you are or what you are worth - its dangerous.|||Driving while tralking on a mobile phone is a contributary factor in many, many accidents.

Great big fines for all such offenders in my opinion.|||Using a mobile `phone whilst driving? Not compatible.

Everyone knows the law but drivers are still getting away with it - and causing accidents.|||Well when people read about that conviction it will hopefully make them realise the penalty for being caught and make them think before they endanger the lives of others.|||Good it is about time it was taken more seriously, driving and talking on the phone do not a good mix make.|||No he should have lost his licence,

it is not as if people dont know its against the law.............. and with all his money you would think he would of had a hand free kit.|||I'd have given him 3 years inside as well! How important are these people who put others lives at risk? A damn sight more important in their own minds than ours!|||he should got 6 months in solitary,

they should have made an example of the muppet.|||Should have been banned for life.|||Yeah,|||no he should be banned|||i believe that was fair. they could check his phone records to prove whether he really was on the phone, and if he was then he didnt have a leg to stand on. probably just like any innocent person he might hit whilst losing control of his vehicle because he didnt have full control of the car or wasnt concentrating on driving!

i would personally like to ask whether 21 months was a long enough sentence for a youth who had past his test 6 ,months before ploughing his 4x4 into an inncoent family, seriously braindamaging their baby, who now has no chance of walking or talking, needs a ventilator to breathe and 24 hour round the clock care.

the youth was doing over 70 in a 30 zone and just weeks later was caught doing 90 on a motorway! he obviously hadnt learnt his lesson. His parents are worth over 35million and their insurance wont payout to convert the little girls home so she can go home becuse no one can say how long she iwll live for, and the parents of the offender didnt offer either.

he got 21 months and is told he will have to serve half!

now that is unfair! he should have got life..the little girl and her parents did!
